Our starting point

For a climate-controlled indoor room, start by comparing Equinox and Eclipse. For an outdoor installation, investigate Luminar. Our recommendation is to settle placement and get an electrical quote before paying extra for features. A sauna that needs a different location or circuit can change the entire project budget.

This comparison covers the two-person versions of three full-spectrum infrared families. It does not rank every Sun Home model or compare traditional water-on-stones saunas. Capacity names are manufacturer labels; compare usable bench space and, where possible, try the format before buying.

The practical differences

Manufacturer-published specifications below are a planning reference. Dimensions are exterior width × depth × height, without service clearances. Confirm the current manual and exact revision before installation.

Eclipse 2Indoors120V · dedicated 30A51.5 × 47.2 × 76.7 inFull-spectrum infrared; built-in red light; Japanese cedar
Luminar 2Outdoors240V · dedicated 20A57 × 51.5 × 82.7 inFull-spectrum infrared; aluminum exterior; cedar interior

Equinox: start here for an indoor comparison

Sun Home lists the Equinox as an indoor full-spectrum infrared sauna. Its current family page specifies a dedicated 120V, 20A circuit and a dry, controlled indoor location. The two-person cabinet is 50.9 inches wide. That does not include the clearance needed around and above it.

Our take: use Equinox as the first indoor quote, then ask what a more expensive alternative adds to your actual routine. A feature you will not use has little practical value. Check seating comfort, access to the controls, cleaning access, and whether you can reach the cabin for future service.

Eclipse: compare the added features and circuit

The Eclipse pairs full-spectrum infrared with built-in red light and a Japanese cedar cabin. Sun Home specifies a dedicated 120V, 30A circuit for the two-person version, with a locking NEMA L5-30P plug. Its four-person version has different power requirements.

Our take: shortlist Eclipse when integrated red light is a deliberate preference, then compare the full installed quote with Equinox. The shared 120V label does not make their electrical installations interchangeable. Give the exact manual to your electrician; do not assume an existing household outlet is suitable. Built-in red light is a feature distinction, not evidence that this model will deliver a better medical outcome.

Luminar: decide whether outdoors is worth the project

Sun Home describes Luminar as an outdoor full-spectrum infrared sauna with an aluminum exterior and Canadian Red Cedar interior. The two-person model uses a dedicated 240V, 20A circuit; the five-person uses 30A. The two-person cabinet dimensions exclude its wider roof overhang.

Our take: Luminar belongs on the shortlist when outdoor placement solves a real space problem. Request a site plan showing the complete footprint, roof overhang, drainage, access, and service clearance. For a Florida home, resolve weather preparation, local requirements, association restrictions, and the delivery path before ordering. Ask the seller what protection and maintenance it requires at your exact location.

Compare complete quotes, not just sale prices

Promotional prices change, so we have not frozen a sale price into this guide. Ask Sun Home for a dated quote for each exact model. Put the equipment price, tax, freight, placement, assembly, electrical work, site preparation, accessories, and expected running costs into the same budget.

Compare your ownership costs →

A useful decision rule: decide how much extra you would pay for the features before looking at the upgrade price. If the difference exceeds that amount, keep the simpler option on your shortlist. Revisit the budget after the electrician and delivery provider have quoted the work.

Five questions to send before ordering

  1. Which current manual and electrical specification apply to the exact model and revision on my quote?
  2. What are the complete installed footprint, roof overhang, clearances, usable bench dimensions, and delivery-route measurements?
  3. Does delivery stop at the curb, or does this quote include placement and assembly?
  4. Which components, labor, shipping, and service visits are covered, and for how long?
  5. If it does not fit my needs, what are the return eligibility, packaging requirements, deductions, and freight costs?

Get the answers in writing and retain the quote, manual, and policies with your receipt. Read our warranty and returns checklist before paying.

Our shortlist: Equinox for an indoor baseline, Eclipse for a deliberate integrated-red-light choice, Luminar for an approved outdoor site. These are buying judgments based on published features, not test awards.
