The first decision

Compare local conditions and building authorities instead of assuming one California-wide installation rule.

One state is not one installation plan

A coastal patio, inland yard, mountain property and urban apartment call for different questions about the manufacturer's permitted ambient conditions, weather protection, access and maintenance. Use the exact manual and address to build the plan. This guide does not declare any product appropriate for all California climates.

Start at the local building department

California CSLB provides a directory and explains that requirements vary among cities and counties. Ask your local department which approvals apply to the specific site and work. Then get a scope from appropriately qualified professionals. A statewide equipment advertisement is not a local permit determination.

Compare the water and service plan

For a cold plunge, ask how often the seller expects water replacement, which supplies its maintenance schedule uses and where discharge is permitted. Check any current local restrictions with your water provider and authority. For either product category, make sure you can access the service panels and obtain parts without moving unrelated structures.

Choose the next city guide by the decision

Los Angeles is published first. San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Sacramento, Irvine and Anaheim are in the research queue. Each additional guide will need a distinct housing, access or ownership angle and checked primary sources before publication. We do not have stores or installation teams in these cities.
